Any Manowar fans here?

IMO the best band after Blind Guardian. Powerful music, great vocal etc.

Some americans in TolkienOnline forums claimed that they would go to Iraq much happier if the listened to Manowar just before the departure. Sure, in their songs they fight for the right things - for Freedom and of course for the metal that is true!

Yeah, precisely my point.

With exceptions: Blow your speakers; Carry on. Those were no good.

But what I like especially:
Warriors of the World United
Swords in the Wind
Call to Arms
Battle Hymn
Black Fire, Wind and Steel

Half Elf Druid: yep, i have similar opinion. some new songs are basicly the old songs remastered... and the lyrics is getting nastier each time you listen to it: about half of songs are about metal, kings of metal, brothers of metal, metal warriors, etc. - looks like guys don't have any other thema to tell you about icon_smile.gif...

Well, Manowar WAS good ... best their albums (in my opinion) are Kings of Metal and Triumph of Steel .. but after ToS - ALL was just pure crap .... only last album got some nice tracs in it .... Pitty. In the time ive started to listen to them (i think it was the year KoM went out) they was almost best of power metal ... and now they are just in memories

It isn't eternal?

What makes you say that?

In the beginning there was metal. And then water and trees and all the other stuff.

In the end, only Metal will enthrone over the chaotic darkness when Satan and God have fallen.

The legacy of Manowar will outlast us, brother Kostroman.

and what do you think about Virgin Steele? They play quite similar kind of music and in my opinion they are even better than Manowar...at least they do not repeat the same topics all the time

For my part, I have to say that there are not many metal bands that I dislike more. To put it briefly: I think Manowar is ridiculous. There exist no songs without the words "steel", "warrior", "brave", "storm", "fight", "brother", "blood" or similar. It's not that I don't like these images (Braveheart is my favourite movie) but a bit more variety should be possible, shouldn't it? What I dislike most is the way they are dressed on stage - well, after hesitation: it's really funny icon_smile.gif
For my taste their songs / melodies are too simple and always structured the same way. On the one hand, I like catchy melodies, but I usually enjoy the progressive stuff (which might have closed the mental gates to "manowarish" music forever).

Wow Aragorn... I completely agree with you...
In Argentina the little metal press, all say that Manowar has gone ridiculous with the lyrics, the clothing and all this kind of "Ideal" of True Metal and stuff... Is not that the press dictate my thinking, but I agree a little bit with that... This "True Metal" thing... seems pretty arrogant...
I like some songs, though is very Far from BG, Rhapsody, Stratovarius or others that are musically in a much higher level... Hope all Manowar fans don't hate me now.

One have to see it from a non-Metal-fan's point of view: Imagine you don't know Metal music at all. Then you switch on MTV or whatever and see some lether-metal-wearing long-haired musicians singing songs like "Brothers of Metal! Stand and fight for the Glory and Honour of Thy King! Raise you mighty Swords of Steel high into the stormy Sky... yadda yadda". and then you hear them calling theirselves 'True Metal'-heads.
Well... now you know why still most people have a wrong image of Metal.

You should know that BG plays power metal and Rhapsody speed metal but Manowar plays heavy metal. icon_rolleyes.gif

Rhapsody is more or less OK.

But as for Manowar, the last three-four albums are considered power metal too.
